GORILLA TREKKING EXPERIENCE
GORILLA TREKKING EXPERIENCE
One of Africa’s most important primate sanctuaries, Kibale Forest is home to 1,500 chimpanzees, offering a high return – in terms of sightings – for one’s efforts. In tracking the chimpanzee through high canopy rainforest, you will be exposed to the delights, foibles and routines of behaviour not unlike our own; a rare and extremely rewarding experience.
Just 45 minutes walk from your lodge, through forest consisting of 350 species of tree, some 50 metres tall, your trek will take place in the company of a guide and armed ranger. As well as chimpanzee, there is a very fine chance that you will come across Kibale’s other primate species, including red colobus, black and white colobus red colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, olive baboon, manabey, red-tailed monkey, pottos and Guerza colobus. There is nowhere else in Africa quite like it.
Home also to 300 species of bird, forest elephant, duiker, bush pig, buffalo and leopard, Kibale Forest offers the intrepid walker an extraordinary opportunity to engage with one of Uganda’s real gems: an African rainforest, a genuinely unforgettable experience.
Depart Entebbe/ Kampala for your first day of the 3 Day Uganda Gorilla Trekking Tour. The drive time from Entebbe/Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park located in Southwestern Uganda is between 8-9 hours. Although it may seem quite a long drive, it is worth it because you get to enjoy the countryside scenery with some of the most beautiful landscapes ranging from plantations, hills, all the way to the Virunga massive. Just keep your cameras near you and your driver will definitely stop if you need him to, so that you can capture that beautiful moment.
You will have an en-route stopover at the Equator crossing at Kayabwe for the photography and a simple experiment before you continue to Mbarara town for Lunch. After lunch, you will embark on your scenic drive to Bwindi NP or Kabale for overnight at Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Trekkers Tavern Lodge.
After your early morning breakfast, your guide will drive you to Ruhija Park Headquarters for briefing and joining others for briefing before heading into the forest for your gorilla trek. This trek can last for between 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on the location of mountain gorilla family on that particular day. Once you find the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them while observing their behaviour, taking photographs before you return to the Park Headquarters for your certificate that confirms that you have tracked gorillas in Uganda. Overnight stay at Rushaga Gorilla Havens Lodge or Trekkers Tervan Lodge.
After your breakfast, you will be driven back to Kampala or Entebbe for your post-tour accommodation or you may choose to fly out of Uganda on the last day of your tour. Since you will use the same route back, you will have another stop at the Equator crossing for photo moments, buying souvenirs or to just relax before continuing to Kampala/Entebbe.
